TRENTON — The Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA) today identified the decedent and the officer in connection with a fatal police-involved shooting on March 16, 2026, in the Lanoka Harbor section of Lacey Township, New Jersey. The civilian who died during the encounter has been identified as Susanne Clarke, 55, of Lacey.

According to the preliminary investigation, Lacey Township police officers were dispatched to a residence on Hemlock Drive, near the intersection of Birch Road, in Lanoka Harbor shortly after 2:00 a.m., in response to a 911 call reporting a medical event. During an encounter with the caller, Ms. Clarke, outside the home at approximately 2:44 a.m., Lacey Township Police Officer Dallas Gant fired his service weapon, striking Ms. Clarke. She was pronounced deceased at the scene at 3:24 a.m. Law enforcement recovered a knife at the scene outside the home.
