Lebanon, PA — Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt today helped induct 100 Lebanon County residents into the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the St. James Players theatre in the Lebanon Valley Mall.
“Voter Hall of Fame inductees serve as role models for all of us,” Schmidt said. “All of them embody a patriotic commitment to our democratic process.”
The Department of State established the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame in 1986 to acknowledge and honor Pennsylvanians who vote in every November election for at least 50 consecutive years. It includes more than 25,300 voters statewide who were inducted over the last four decades.
“We’re grateful for the lifelong commitment of all 100 of these Lebanon County voters,” Schmidt said. “And I am honored today to help induct four county residents who achieved the extraordinary feat of having voted in at least 70 elections.”
Those four inductees and the number of consecutive years they voted are:
- Arlene Miller of Jonestown, 70 years
- Rose Lesher of Lebanon, 71 years
- Priscilla Wolf of Lebanon, 75 years
- Kenneth B. Light of Palmyra, 76 years “There had to be some Election Days when these voters were ill, or busy with pressing work or family commitments, or the weather was bad, or they faced some other challenge that made casting their ballot inconvenient,” Schmidt said. “Yet they persevered, and they made exercising their constitutional right to vote a top priority.”
All of today’s inductees received certificates from the Commonwealth in honor of their achievement. Lebanon County now has more than 300 members of the Hall of Fame.
