Summary

The National Green Tribunal heard multiple original applications concerning environmental matters. During the hearing on March 25, 2026, the State of Punjab acknowledged filing an incorrect affidavit and committed to submitting the correct one. The Tribunal noted that a similar issue is pending before the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

What changed

This document details a hearing before the National Green Tribunal (Principal Bench, New Delhi) on March 25, 2026, involving several original applications (OAs) and interlocutory applications (IAs). The primary issue discussed during the hearing related to IA No. 226/2026, filed by the State of Punjab and its authorities. The State's counsel acknowledged that an incorrect affidavit had been mistakenly filed and committed to submitting the correct one during the proceedings. Additionally, it was noted that a similar matter is currently under consideration by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

For compliance officers, this hearing indicates ongoing environmental litigation and procedural matters before the NGT. While the immediate action required is for the State of Punjab to rectify its filing, regulated entities involved in these or similar environmental cases should be aware of the potential for procedural delays and the importance of accurate documentation. The reference to the Punjab and Haryana High Court suggests a need to monitor related proceedings that may impact environmental compliance obligations in the region.

What to do next

  1. Monitor related proceedings before the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
