EU Launches Public Consultation on European Ocean Act Until 16 July 2026

The European Commission launched a public consultation on the European Ocean Act on 23 April 2026, open until 16 July 2026, inviting stakeholders, public authorities, experts, citizens, and coastal communities to share views via a structured questionnaire. The European Ocean Act aims to consolidate EU ocean-related targets, streamline ocean governance, reduce bureaucracy and reporting burdens, and modernise maritime spatial planning. The Commission plans to adopt the legislative proposal by the end of 2026, with the Act set to create a legal basis for the OceanEye European ocean observation initiative and align with the revised Marine Strategy Framework Directive.

EU DG JUST CBAM Webinar for Exporters, 7 May 2026

The European Commission DG Justice has announced a free informational webinar titled 'How to make decarbonisation efforts pay off' scheduled for 7 May 2026, 13:30–15:00 CEST. The session will provide third-country exporters with guidance on CBAM methodology and how low-carbon investments can translate into competitive advantage in the EU market. Joint Statement: €90B Ukraine Support Loan Adopted, 20th Russia Sanctions Package Welcomed

European Council President António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a joint statement on 22 April 2026 welcoming the adoption by co-legislators of a €90 billion support loan for Ukraine covering 2026 and 2027. The loan aims to address Ukraine's urgent budgetary and defence needs while enabling the country to remain resilient against ongoing Russian attacks, with first disbursement expected in Q2 2026. The Presidents also welcomed adoption of the 20th sanctions package targeting Russia's energy revenues, banking system, and shadow fleet operations.
