What changed
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has lifted water contact advisories for two Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches following acceptable bacteria levels in recent water samples. Pass Christian Central Beach (Station 6, Henderson Ave. to Hiern Ave.) and Gulfport Harbor Beach (Station 9, 20th Ave. to Thornton Ave.) are now cleared for swimming. Four advisories remain in effect on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
This is a routine public health notification with no compliance requirements for regulated entities. Beach conditions are posted at beaches.mdeq.ms.gov. Citizens can sign up for text alerts by texting 'MDEQbeach' to (833) 259-4545 or following @MDEQ on Twitter. After Labor Day (September 7, 2026), MDEQ will communicate advisories through posted beach signage and the website rather than press releases and text alerts.
