RIIO-3 Network Innovation Allowance Governance Framework

Ofgem has published the RIIO-3 Network Innovation Allowance governance framework, effective 1 April 2026 alongside the RIIO-3 network price control for electricity transmission, gas transmission, and gas distribution. The document also aligns with the regulatory framework for the National Energy System Operator commencing on the same date. Licensees are awarded NIA funding to support innovation projects under this governance structure.

Heat Networks Digital Service Launches for Private Beta Registration

Ofgem has launched its new digital service for heat network registration in private beta, allowing heat network operators and suppliers to test the platform and complete registration ahead of the statutory deadline. The service is the central hub for demonstrating compliance with the Heat Networks Consumer Protection Regulations across Great Britain. Heat network operators and suppliers must register their heat network by 26 January 2027, and all authorised heat networks are bound by the Energy Ombudsman scheme terms even if not yet registered as members.
