Summary

The United States Patent and Trademark Office granted Patent US12592745B2 to NuCurrent, Inc. covering wireless power transfer with in-band virtualized wired communications. The patent describes technology for transmitting both wireless power and data simultaneously using a modulated electromagnetic field, with the in-band data formatted according to a wireless power and data transfer protocol carrying embedded data from a different communication protocol.

What changed

The USPTO granted Patent US12592745B2 to NuCurrent, Inc. with inventors Mark Melone and Michael Katz. The patent covers a transmitter-side host device configured to output both unmodulated AC signals for wireless power delivery and modulated AC signals that carry embedded data formatted under a different data communication protocol. The technology enables simultaneous wireless power transfer and data communications using in-band signaling across the wireless power link.

Patent grants do not impose compliance obligations on regulated entities. This is an informational notice of intellectual property rights assignment with no regulatory or compliance requirements. Companies developing wireless power transfer technology should be aware of this patent when designing similar systems to avoid potential infringement issues.

Abstract

A transmitter-side host device comprises a transmitter-side antenna and a transmitter-side control system. The transmitter-side control system is configured to: (i) output an unmodulated AC signal for driving the transmitter-side antenna to emit an unmodulated alternating electromagnetic field that delivers wireless power to a receiver-side host device that includes a load and (ii) modulate an in-band data signal onto the unmodulated AC signal and thereby outputting a modulated AC signal for driving the transmitter-side antenna to emit a modulated alternating electromagnetic field that delivers both wireless power and wireless data to the receiver-side host device. The in-band data signal is formatted in accordance with a wireless power and data transfer protocol and carries, as payload, embedded data originating from the transmitter-side host device that is formatted in accordance with a data communication protocol different from the wireless power and data transfer protocol.
