Energy Accounting System Manages, Certifies Energy Transactions via Ledger
Summary
The USPTO has published a patent application for an energy accounting system that manages and certifies energy transactions using a ledger. The system aims to track energy through cryptographic certificates and generate reports for sustainability compliance.
What changed
This document describes a newly published patent application (US20260087506A1) from the USPTO detailing an energy accounting system. The system is designed to manage and certify energy transactions through a general ledger and chart of accounts, utilizing cryptographic certificates for tracking and potential trading. It also includes an ontology engine for normalizing energy terminology and a reporting manager for sustainability metrics like SDG compliance and carbon net-zero assessments.
As this is a patent application, it does not impose immediate regulatory obligations. However, it signals potential future technological developments in energy transaction management and reporting. Compliance officers in the energy and technology sectors should be aware of these innovations, particularly those related to blockchain, energy trading, and sustainability reporting, as they may influence future regulatory landscapes or create new compliance considerations for emerging technologies.

Abstract
The present invention relates to managing and certifying energy transactions in an energy accounting system. The present invention provides a framework for receiving energies, organizing, and accounting energy-related transactions of the received energies through a general ledger and a chart of accounts. The present invention further enables tracking of the received energies through cryptographic certificates that are further convertible into exchangeable cryptographic artifacts for trading the energies. The present invention provides an ontology engine that normalizes energy-associated terminology to enable compliance with standardized terminology. A reporting manager generates detailed reports, for example, reports for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) compliance, carbon net-zero assessments, and other sustainability metrics.
