NOTICE OF PUBLICATION OF MUNICIPAL ELECTRICITY TARIFF APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2026/27 FINANCIAL YEAR FOR CITY OF EKURHULENI, MOGALE CITY, AND NALEDI MUNICIPALITY WHO HAVE FILED A NOTICE OF MOTION SEEKING TO DEPART FROM TIMELINES SET BY THE HIGH COURT JUDGMENT

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) is a regulatory authority established as a juristic person in terms of section 3 of the National Energy Regulator Act, 2004 (Act No. 40 of 2004). NERSA's mandate is to regulate the electricity, piped-gas and petroleum pipelines industries in terms of the Electricity Regulation Act, 2006 (Act No. 4 of 2006), the Gas Act, 2001 (Act No. 48 of 2001) and the Petroleum Pipelines Act, 2003 (Act No. 60 of 2003). On 16, 17 and 24 March 2026, the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division, Pretoria allowed the three municipalities to deviate from the set timelines and follow a different timeline to approve its tariff applications for FY2026/27. NERSA will publish the tariff applications, including the cost of supply studies on the NERSA website (at http://www.nersa.org.za under 'Electricity>Pricing>Local Authorities & Private Distributors'), social media platforms and newspapers to solicit written comments from affected parties. The notices will be published in two (2) official languages. The timelines for the decision-making process in relation to the abovementioned tariff applications is provided in Table 1 and 2 below.
