Summary

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has issued Order No. 36977, initiating a modified procedure for Clearwater Power Company's 2026 Idaho Wildfire Mitigation Plan application. The order sets deadlines for public comments and company replies regarding the plan, which is filed under the Wildfire Standard of Care Act.

What changed

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission (IPUC) has issued Order No. 36977, initiating a modified procedure for Clearwater Power Company's application for approval of its 2026 Idaho Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP). This order follows the company's January 20, 2026, application and establishes a process for public input without a formal hearing, as permitted by the Wildfire Standard of Care Act (WSCA) and Commission rules. Intervention was previously granted to Potlatch Forest Holdings, LLC.

Interested parties are notified that they may file written comments by June 2, 2026, explaining their support or opposition to the WMP. Those requesting a hearing must specifically state this and justify why written comments are insufficient. The Company must file any reply comments by June 23, 2026. If no comments are received, the Commission may issue a final order without a hearing. This process allows for public participation and input on the company's wildfire mitigation strategies for 2026.

What to do next

  1. Submit written comments by June 2, 2026, if opposing or supporting the plan.
  2. Specifically request a hearing and justify its necessity in written comments.
  3. File reply comments by June 23, 2026.
