Affected products

This recall involves the Modofo Tool 5 in 1 Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector with model number HTB-05. The detector can be plugged into an outlet or can act as a portable unit with a built in rechargeable 1600mAh battery. The detector claims to detect smoke, carbon monoxide, natural gas, and monitor for temperature and humidity. The unit is black in colour.  The model number, product name and brand name can be found on the label found on the back of the product.

Issue

The Residential Detectors Regulations require that smoke detectors, heat actuated fire detectors and smoke alarms in Canada meet the applicable Canadian standards. The product does not have a Canadian certification mark and it is unknown if the alarm operates in the presence of smoke, posing a potential fire hazard.

Health Canada reminds consumers that products that do not have a recognized Canadian certification mark may not meet Canadian performance standards and could fail or operate incorrectly. This could pose a risk to consumers who may not be alerted to a fire incident in their home. As of March 6, 2026, the company has received no reports of incidents or injury in Canada.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and return it to Modofo Tool for a refund. Consumers should replace the recalled product with one that bears a Canadian certification mark.
