Summary

The Department of Defense (DoD) is proposing a new information collection, the Military Experiences, Risk and Protective Factors, and Adolescent Health and Well-Being Survey. The agency is seeking public comment on the necessity, utility, and burden of this proposed collection.

What changed

The Department of Defense (DoD), specifically OUSD(P&R), has issued a 60-day notice proposing a new information collection titled "Military Experiences, Risk and Protective Factors, and Adolescent Health and Well-Being Survey" (OMB Control Number 0704-0635). This survey aims to assess the association of military experiences with adolescents' psychosocial adjustment, health, academic achievement, and career aspirations, identifying risk and protective factors. The collection is estimated to involve 4,660 respondents with an average burden of 30 minutes per response, totaling 2,330 annual burden hours. The survey is intended for military-connected adolescents and their families, with individuals surveyed periodically until age 25.

Regulated entities and the public are invited to submit comments by April 21, 2026, regarding the practical utility, accuracy of burden estimates, and potential improvements for clarity and minimized burden. Comments can be submitted via the Federal eRulemaking Portal or by mail. This is a standard information collection proposal under the Paperwork Reduction Act, and while it does not impose new regulatory obligations on external entities, feedback is crucial for refining the data collection process.

What to do next

  1. Review the proposed "Military Experiences, Risk and Protective Factors, and Adolescent Health and Well-Being Survey" information collection.
  2. Submit comments on the survey's necessity, utility, burden, and clarity by April 21, 2026.
