ICO Warns of Regulatory Action Over Care Records Access Failures

The ICO has launched its 'Better Records Together' campaign and warned UK local authorities and Health and Social Care Trusts in Northern Ireland that people trying to access their own care records are being let down. Survey findings show 71% of people struggled with poor communication from local authorities, 69% experienced longer-than-expected processing times, and 87% were left with questions or concerns after receiving their records. The campaign provides new standards, advice, and a UK-wide supervision pilot across 19 organisations, with the ICO warning that if improvements are not made, organisations may face regulatory action.
