Wayne P M v Commissioner of Social Security
Plaintiff Wayne P. M. brought an action pursuant to 42 U.S.C. §§ 405(g) seeking judicial review of the Commissioner of Social Security's denial of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability benefits. The United States District Court for the Northern District of New York denied Plaintiff's motion for judgment on the pleadings and granted Defendant's cross-motion, affirming the Commissioner's decision. The Court found the ALJ's determination that Plaintiff could perform work at all exertional levels with nonexertional limitations was supported by substantial evidence, and rejected Plaintiff's argument that migraines and headaches constituted a severe impairment requiring a more restrictive RFC.
Fredericka Butler v. New Paltz Central School District - Equal Protection
Fredericka Butler, an African American and Latina woman, brought a 42 U.S.C. § 1983 claim against New Paltz Central School District and two administrators alleging Equal Protection violations related to her tenure denial as Director of Student Support Services. Judge Anthony Brindisi granted defendants' motion for summary judgment on March 27, 2026 in the Northern District of New York, dismissing all claims against the district, superintendent Stephen Gratto, and interim superintendent Bernard Josefsberg.
Bruce v. ITW Building Components Group - Product Liability Workplace Injury
The United States District Court for the Northern District of New York resolved cross-motions in Bruce v. ITW Building Components Group, Inc. (1:23-CV-398), granting plaintiff leave to file a second amended complaint alleging product liability and failure-to-warn claims arising from a September 25, 2020 workplace injury at Kora Components LLC's Ellenville, New York facility. The court denied defendant's motion to dismiss under Rule 12(b)(6), finding plaintiff's proposed amended complaint stated plausible claims that ITW designed and manufactured the Alpine RollerPress without adequate safety warnings or emergency stop mechanisms. The case will proceed with discovery on the correct product.
