Kamecia Thomas v. NewRez LLC - Mortgage Dispute Ruling
The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Alabama issued a memorandum opinion on March 6, 2026, resolving a contentious, long-running mortgage servicing dispute between Chapter 13 debtor Kamecia Thomas and NewRez, LLC, d/b/a Shellpoint Mortgage Servicing. The Court conducted a 12-day trial commencing October 22, 2025, during which Thomas introduced more than 1,716 pages of documents and NRZ introduced 48 exhibits, ultimately finding that some relief for the Plaintiff is appropriate. Jurisdiction exists under 28 U.S.C. §§ 157 and 1334 as a core proceeding.
O'Neal Motion to Reinstate Denied, N.D. Alabama
The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Alabama denied the Motion to Reinstate Miscellaneous Proceeding filed by Wendell Dwayne O'Neal d/b/a Thirteenth Dimension, LLC, Misc. Proceeding No. 22-80001-CRJ, finding that O'Neal failed to establish cause for reinstatement under Rule 9014(c) of the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure. The denial follows a prior Sanctions Order from the U.S. District Court, N.D. Alabama imposing $6,500 in monetary sanctions and a prefiling injunction requiring O'Neal to seek leave before filing future pro se pleadings in any federal court, which was affirmed by the Eleventh Circuit on October 19, 2021.
Jones Chapter 13 Case, Regions Bank Motion Denied
The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Alabama denied the emergency motion filed by debtor Sandranetta Latisha Maria Jones against Regions Bank following a hearing on December 18, 2025. The debtor, proceeding pro se, sought a temporary restraining order, re-imposition of the automatic stay, an injunction against foreclosure, servicer reconciliation, and preservation of evidence. The court, having considered the pleadings, arguments, and applicable law, issued a memorandum opinion and order denying the motion.
