Chief Justice IMASAKI Discusses Judicial Digitalization
Chief Justice IMASAKI of the Japan Supreme Court held a press conference on Constitution Memorial Day (May 3, 2025) addressing judicial digitalization. The amended Code of Civil Procedure is scheduled for full implementation by May 2026, with Supreme Court Rules of Civil Procedure already amended in September 2024 to enable online document submission and digitized case records. Courts across Japan are preparing for implementation with cooperation from bar associations and lawyers nationwide.

Lao Supreme Court Vice President Visits Japan, Discusses Rule of Law
On October 29, H.E. Mr. Bounkhouang THAVISACK, Vice President of the People's Supreme Court of the Lao PDR, and accompanying delegation members paid a courtesy call on Justice SAKAI Toru at the Supreme Court of Japan. The Vice President expressed appreciation for Japan's long-standing legal technical cooperation, which has contributed to the development of the Lao judicial sector and establishment of the rule of law. Justice SAKAI and the Vice President exchanged views on human resource development for promoting the rule of law before concluding the meeting in a friendly atmosphere.
