Hawaii Supreme Court Suspends Steven D. Strauss from Law Practice
Summary
The Hawaii Supreme Court has suspended attorney Steven D. Strauss from the practice of law, effective immediately. The suspension is due to his failure to cooperate with disciplinary investigations by the Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) in two separate cases. Strauss has been granted twenty days to comply with post-suspension duties.
What changed
The Supreme Court of the State of Hawaiʻi, acting on a petition from the Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC), has issued an order suspending Steven D. Strauss (Bar No. 5242) from the practice of law. This action stems from Strauss's failure to cooperate with ODC's disciplinary investigations in ODC Case Nos. 25-0075 and 25-0195, including failing to respond to allegations and a subpoena duces tecum. The suspension is effective immediately and remains in place until further order of the court.
This order mandates that Strauss comply with the duties imposed by RSCH Rule 2.16 within twenty days of the order's date, including filing a required affidavit. The Clerk of the Supreme Court is directed to distribute this order to all judges. This represents a significant disciplinary action against a legal professional for non-compliance with investigative procedures.
What to do next
- Comply with RSCH Rule 2.16 duties, including filing affidavit by March 11, 2026.
- Cease all practice of law until further order.
- Distribute order to all judges as per RSCH Rule 2.16(f).
Penalties
Suspension from the practice of law until further order of the court. Potential assignment of costs.

(2) On December 16, 2025, this court entered an order directing Respondent Strauss to show cause, within ten days after service of the order, as to why Respondent should not be immediately suspended from the practice of law pursuant to RSCH Rule 2.12A based on his failure to cooperate with ODC’s investigations in ODC Case Nos. 25-0075 and 25-0195.
