Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway Final Certification Approved
The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission granted final certification to Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway in Wyandotte County, enabling the casino to open to the public on February 3, 2012. KRGC staff reviewed and approved internal control procedures and observed a controlled demonstration on January 30, 2012. Commission enforcement agents will maintain on-site presence at the facility.
Historical Horse Racing Facility License Selection Process Kansas, July 2023
The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission announced a three-day Historical Horse Racing Facility license selection process starting July 11, 2023 at the Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview Wichita. Two applicants, Supporting Kansas Veterans Inc./Boyd Gaming Inc. and Wichita GC Charities Inc./Ruffin Holdings Inc., will present competing proposals for an HHR facility in Sedgwick County. A public comment period is tentatively scheduled for July 12 as part of the process.
KRGC Issues Show Cause Letters to Three Race Track Licensees
The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission voted unanimously to issue show cause letters to licensees of the state's three race tracks for failing to operate required racing meets. The six licenses affected include organizational and facility manager licenses for Woodlands in Kansas City, Camptown Greyhound Park in Frontenac, and Wichita Greyhound Park in Wichita. Licensees have 30 days to demonstrate progress restarting racing programs or face revocation hearings scheduled for October 13-14.
KRGC Destroys 12 Illegal Gambling Devices in Topeka
The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission destroyed more than 12 illegal gambling devices, including 'Quarter Pushers' and 'Cherry Master slot machines,' in a coordinated enforcement action. The devices violated Kansas criminal gambling statutes requiring prize, chance, and consideration elements. KRGC has conducted enforcement since 2008 targeting illegal machines found in convenience stores, truck stops, Laundromats, and bars.
Kansas Star Casino Management Contract Awarded to Peninsula Gaming
The Kansas Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board selected Iowa-based Peninsula Gaming to manage the state-owned Kansas Star Casino in the South Central Gaming Zone. The board voted 6-1 to award the $260 million casino contract, which initially includes 1,300 slot machines and 30 table games with expansion to 2,000 machines and 50 tables by 2014. Peninsula Gaming must complete a background check by the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission before the contract becomes binding.
