What changed
The FTC has received and published a petition for rulemaking that requests new disclosure requirements for indirect auto lending. The petition is now open for public comment through May 21, 2026. Any person may submit comments in support of or in opposition to the petition.
Affected parties in the indirect auto lending ecosystem—including auto dealers, lenders, and financial institutions—should monitor this petition. If the FTC grants the petition and initiates a formal rulemaking, the resulting rule could impose new mandatory disclosure obligations on participants in indirect auto financing arrangements.
