Pollution Incident Dead Fish Burn of Carron Near Aberlour
SEPA is investigating a pollution incident on the Burn of Carron near Aberlour, Scotland, that caused dead fish. Reports of white discoloration and a turpentine-like odour were received on 14 April. Officers traced the source to a layby on the A95 road. The Spey Fishery Board reported additional impacts including dead fish. SEPA officers confirmed on 15 April that water is now running clear. The investigation remains ongoing.

Forest Service Repatriates 1135 Cultural Items Under NAGPRA

The Forest Service has determined that 1,135 cultural items meet the definition of unassociated funerary objects, sacred objects, and/or objects of cultural patrimony with cultural affiliation to Indian Tribes. The items include faunal bone, lithics, shell and stone beads, ceramic bowls, and other artifacts excavated from site AZ O:15:1(ASM)/AR-03-12-06-54 in Gila County, Arizona in 1929 and 1930.

Magnuson-Stevens Act; EFP Application for U.S. West Coast Highly Migratory Species Fisheries Testing Monofilament Ring Tackle
NMFS received an exempted fishing permit (EFP) application from the Pflegler Institute of Environmental Research to test monofilament ring tackle as an alternative gear type for harvesting swordfish and other highly migratory species (HMS) off the U.S. West Coast. The Pacific Fishery Management Council reviewed and endorsed the application during its March 2026 meeting and recommended NMFS approval. NMFS is now seeking public comments on whether to issue the EFP.
