EU and EIB Announce €600M Financing Package for Ukraine Recovery

The European Commission and EIB Group announced a new financing package exceeding €600 million to support Ukraine's recovery, comprising over €450 million in EIB Group financing supported by an extended EU guarantee plus approximately €150 million in EU grants and technical assistance. The financing will target reconstruction priorities including roads, railways, power grids, energy efficiency, urban mobility, and education facilities. The EU guarantee tops up €2 billion made available in 2025 under the Ukraine Investment Framework, part of the EU's €50 billion Ukraine Facility (2024–2027).

€100M Malta-Italy Interconnector Supports Energy Security, Renewable Integration

The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Malta's Minister for Finance Clyde Caruana announced a €100 million financing agreement for Malta's second electricity interconnector with Italy (IC2). The 122 km subsea cable will operate at 220 kV with 225 MW transmission capacity, connecting Magħtab, Malta to Terna's substation at Ragusa, Sicily. Scheduled to enter operation in Q1 2027, the €296.68 million project is co-financed by EU Regional Development Fund (€165.78M) and Malta's own resources, supporting energy security and renewable integration.

EIB Group Approves €10 Billion Financing Including €2 Billion for Clean Energy

The European Investment Bank Group Boards approved €10 billion in new financing, including nearly €2 billion dedicated to clean energy investments. The EIB Board endorsed loans for offshore wind in Germany, solar in Italy, and accelerated renewables adoption by Austrian businesses, alongside energy savings projects in Latvia and Dutch grid upgrades supporting electric vehicle charging. An additional €8 billion covers urban development in Belgium, road infrastructure in Romania, and business investments across Bulgaria, Italy, and Spain.
