Strengthening Global Cooperation to Counter Fraud
During the Global Fraud Summit in Vienna, Egmont Group leadership took part in multiple high‑level panels and side events, reinforcing the central role of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) in the global fight against fraud.
Egmont Group Chair Elżbieta Franków-Jaśkiewicz and Egmont Group Vice‑Chair Daniel Thelesklaf contributed to discussions hosted by key international partners, including UNODC, INTERPOL, Financial Action Task Force (FATF), Financial Intelligence Unit – FIU Deutschland, and the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).
Across these engagements, Egmont Group leadership highlighted the importance of timely international information sharing, effective public‑private partnerships, and the use of technology anchored by strong human analytical capacity to disrupt increasingly borderless and sophisticated fraud networks. A consistent message emerged: fraud operates across borders and sectors, and the response must be equally connected, agile, and outcome‑focused.
In this context, the Egmont Group was pleased to contribute to INTERPOL’s Global Financial Fraud Threat Assessment, supporting stronger international cooperation and a shared understanding of emerging financial fraud threats. FIUs play a critical role in this effort, working closely with law enforcement and international partners to translate intelligence into operational impact.
By strengthening cooperation between FIUs, law enforcement, the private sector, and international organisations, the Egmont Group continues to support faster detection, earlier disruption of illicit financial flows, and better outcomes for victims worldwide.
“Fraud networks operate globally and move fast. Our response must be just as connected, timely, and coordinated if we are to protect victims and disrupt illicit financial flows.”
Elżbieta Franków Jaśkiewicz, Egmont Group Chair
“Technology and cooperation must reinforce each other if we are to translate intelligence into real‑world disruption of fraud.”
Daniel Thelesklaf, Egmont Group Vice‑Chair
We thank the Global Fraud Summit organizers for inviting the Egmont Group to share its perspective on evolving global fraud threats. Such events offer a valuable platform to exchange views and reinforce collaboration among international partners.
