Consumer Confidence Indicator Deteriorates Sharply in March 2026
The Banque centrale du Luxembourg published its consumer confidence survey results for March 2026. The consumer confidence indicator deteriorated sharply from -6 in February 2026 to -16 in March 2026. All components evolved unfavourably, with households dramatically lowering expectations regarding both the general economic situation in Luxembourg and their own future financial situation, as well as intentions for major purchases.
Credit Institutions Balance Sheet and Reserve Requirements February 2026
The Banque centrale du Luxembourg published aggregated balance sheet data for credit institutions showing €1,000,949 million on 28 February 2026, a 0.62% decrease from January 2026 and a 2.07% increase year-on-year. Net interbank lending stood at €221,660 million, while loans to resident non-bank customers increased by €816 million (0.68%) monthly. The reserve requirement for the maintenance period from 25 March 2026 to 5 May 2026 amounts to €6,649 million.
Luxembourg International Investment Position Q4 2025
The Central Bank of Luxembourg released Q4 2025 International Investment Position data. Luxembourg's external financial assets reached €13,499 billion (up €361 billion from Q3 2025), driven by Investment Funds expansion. External financial liabilities reached €13,474 billion. The international investment position stood at €25 billion at end of December 2025.
Luxembourg Interest Rates: Variable Mortgage at 3.07%, Consumer Loans at 4.05% (Feb 2026)
The Banque centrale du Luxembourg published February 2026 interest rate statistics showing the variable mortgage rate for households increased by 6 basis points to 3.07%, while new mortgage loan volumes reached €207 million. Consumer loan rates with fixation periods of 1-5 years decreased by 22 basis points to 4.05%, with new volumes of €56 million. Fixed mortgage rates across various fixation periods ranged from 3.33% to 4.01%.
Luxembourg 2025 Current Account Surplus €4.7B
The Banque centrale du Luxembourg (BCL) and STATEC released first provisional results for Luxembourg's 2025 balance of payments. The current account showed a surplus of €4.7 billion, a decrease of €1.4 billion compared to 2024. The goods surplus was €1.9 billion (up €0.1 billion), while the services balance declined €3.3% (down €1 billion), with non-financial services down €2.7 billion partially offset by a €1.7 billion increase in financial services. Portfolio investments recorded net inflows of €421 billion in Luxembourg equities driven by investment funds, up from €236 billion in 2024.
