What changed
The Department of Agriculture is seeking OMB approval to collect price and sales data from certified organic farms through the 2026 RMA Organic Price Survey. The survey is conducted under a cooperative agreement between NASS and USDA's Risk Management Agency (RMA) and carries voluntary reporting. Data will be used to establish organic-specific price elections for crop insurance programs. Respondents include farmers and ranchers operating certified organic operations in all 50 states.
Farmers and ranchers should be aware that this information collection, if approved, will create reporting burden (approximately 33 minutes per respondent annually). Participation is voluntary, and the 15,077 total burden hours will be distributed across 27,000 certified organic farms. Those with concerns about the survey scope, frequency, or estimated burden may submit comments to NASS by May 11, 2026.
