Crop Insurance Sales Closing Dates Approach for Spring Planted Crops

The USDA Risk Management Agency has issued a reminder to agricultural producers that the final date to apply for or make changes to their existing crop insurance coverage is approaching for spring planted crops, Whole-Farm Revenue Protection, Micro Farm, and some specialty crops. Producers must finalize coverage decisions on or before the applicable sales closing date.

The USDA Risk Management Agency issued a reminder on April 2, 2026, that the final dates to apply for or make changes to crop insurance coverage for the 2027 crop year are approaching. The next major sales closing dates are May 1, May 15, July 15, and July 31, varying by crop and location. Producers are encouraged to visit their crop insurance agent soon to learn specific details and ensure coverage decisions are made before the applicable deadlines.

USDA Appoints Three New FCIC Board of Directors Members

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced the appointment of three new members to the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Board of Directors: Tim Weber (retired President of Great American Crop Insurance), Cara Riekhof (Missouri row-crop farm partner and crop insurance agent), and Brett Wightman (Virginia farmer and agricultural risk consultant). All three will serve four-year terms beginning February 2026. The FCIC Board provides guidance to USDA's Risk Management Agency on administering the Federal crop insurance program, which is delivered through private insurance agents.
