What changed

The Flathead National Forest has formally withdrawn the notice of intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for the Mid-Swan Landscape Restoration and Wildland Urban Interface Fuels Project, along with all resulting environmental review documents including the draft EIS, final EIS, and draft Record of Decision. This action cancels a multi-year NEPA review process that began with the original notice published October 23, 2018. The withdrawal is based on recent field work findings concerning resource conditions.

Parties with interests in the Mid-Swan project area should be aware that the prior environmental review process has been terminated in its entirety. The Forest Service may undertake new planning efforts in the future, but no specific timeline or next steps are indicated in this withdrawal notice. Stakeholders should contact District Ranger Sarah Canepa at the contact information provided for updates on potential future restoration activities.
