Notice: Foreign-built small passenger vessel for US coastwise trade
Summary
The Maritime Administration has issued a notice requesting public comment on the use of a foreign-built small passenger vessel in United States coastwise trade. The comment period closes on April 3, 2026.
What changed
The Maritime Administration (MARAD) has published a notice seeking public input regarding a request to allow a foreign-built small passenger vessel, the S/V BLUE STAR, to engage in United States coastwise trade. This notice initiates a consultation period where interested parties can submit comments on the proposed use.
Regulated entities, particularly those in the maritime transportation sector, should review this notice and consider submitting comments by the deadline of April 3, 2026. Failure to comment may result in the request proceeding without consideration of potential objections or concerns. This action could set a precedent for future waivers of coastwise trade restrictions for foreign-built vessels.
What to do next
- Review MARAD Notice regarding foreign-built vessel for coastwise trade.
- Submit public comments by April 3, 2026, if applicable.
