What changed
This notice announces two public hearings being held by the Gulf Fishery Management Council to receive comments on Reef Fish Amendment 63, which would establish a 3-year pilot program setting aside a portion of the Red Grouper commercial quota for IFQ program participants. The hearings will be conducted via webinar on May 13 and 14, 2026, beginning at 6 p.m. EDT.
Affected participants in the commercial red grouper fishery should consider attending these hearings to provide testimony on the proposed quota pool alternatives. While this notice does not itself create compliance obligations, comments submitted may influence the final form of Amendment 63, which could affect quota allocation for commercial fishermen operating in the Gulf of Mexico.
