Swiss Sanctions Against Taliban Updated via UN Security Council Amendments

The UN Security Council sanctions committee has amended its list of individuals, companies, and organizations associated with the Taliban. Switzerland's SESAM database has been updated to reflect these changes. The amendments entered into force in Switzerland on 16 April 2026 without separate Federal Council action, pursuant to the 2016 ordinance establishing automatic application of UN Security Council sanctions lists.

Affected parties subject to UN Security Council sanctions—including financial institutions, exporters, and individuals engaged in transactions with listed parties—should verify their compliance systems and screening processes incorporate the updated SESAM database entries. Switzerland enforces these sanctions under its autonomous implementation regime, and violations may result in domestic enforcement action.
