What changed
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), through its Ocean and Coastal Mapping Center, has issued a notice soliciting proposals for a single 5-year cooperative agreement. This initiative, authorized by the Ocean and Coastal Mapping Integration Act and the Hydrographic Services Improvement Act, aims to advance ocean and coastal mapping efforts. The total anticipated funding is approximately $8,500,000, with $1,600,000 allocated for each of the five fiscal years, beginning in FY 2026. Eligible applicants are solely institutions of higher education within the United States.
Institutions interested in applying must complete SAM.gov, Grants.gov, and eRA Commons registrations, which can take 4-6 weeks. The proposal submission deadline is May 11, 2026. This is a significant funding opportunity for academic institutions engaged in relevant research, and early registration is strongly advised to avoid application errors. Failure to meet registration and submission requirements may result in disqualification.
