Summary

The UK Atomic Energy Authority has extended a contract for crop, oil, and liquid sampling services with RCD Lockinge Ltd for six months. This extension is in place while a new tender process is completed to ensure continuity of environmental monitoring services.

What changed

The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) has awarded a six-month extension to its existing contract with RCD Lockinge Ltd for crop, oil, and liquid sampling services. This extension, valued at £35,070 including VAT, is intended to maintain environmental monitoring capabilities, specifically for detecting low levels of tritium radioactivity near UKAEA facilities, while a new tender process is underway.

This notice is primarily informational for potential suppliers and does not impose new obligations on regulated entities. However, companies interested in providing similar environmental monitoring services should be aware of the UKAEA's ongoing procurement activities. The contract extension runs from March 9, 2026, to April 30, 2026, with a potential further extension to March 31, 2027, if the tender process is delayed.

Description

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) requires a service to carry out ad hoc liquid and oil analysis, routine sampling and analysis of grass, milk and foodstuffs for levels of tritium radioactivity in order to assess the effect of its operations on the local environment. Normal operations of the UKAEA facilities lead to very small levels of tritium in the environment near the site perimeter; consequently, the analysis method must be able to detect and quantify very low levels of activity in these samples. The incumbent is being awarded for 6 months extension on the current contract before tender is completed to find suitable supplier .
