Email

Summary

The USPTO has published a new patent application detailing a method and apparatus for avoiding unnecessary wireless transmissions using a retransmission counter. The application, filed by inventors Sangkyu Baek and Atsushi Ishii, aims to improve telecommunications system efficiency by managing packet retransmissions.

What changed

This document is a newly published patent application (US20260088942A1) from the USPTO, describing an invention related to telecommunications systems. The core of the invention is a transmitter node equipped with a retransmission counter and processor circuitry. This system is designed to store a value indicating the number of packet retransmissions and to adjust this value when a packet is determined to be obsolete, thereby avoiding unnecessary wireless transmissions.

As this is a patent application, it does not impose direct regulatory obligations or compliance deadlines on entities. However, it represents a technological development in the field of wireless communications that may influence future industry standards or product designs. Companies operating in the telecommunications sector, particularly those involved in wireless network design and device manufacturing, may find this technology relevant for their research and development efforts.

Abstract

A transmitter node of a telecommunications system comprises a retransmission counter and processor circuitry. The retransmission counter is configured to store a value indicative of a number of retransmissions of a packet from the transmitter node to a receiver node of the telecommunications system. The processor circuitry configured to affect the value of the retransmission counter for the packet when the packet is determined to be an obsolete packet. Methods of operating such nodes are also provided.
