Boston, MA — Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) Commissioner Geoffrey Snyder today announced that preliminary revenue collections for February totaled $2.336 billion, $208 million or 9.8% more than actual collections in February 2025, and $59 million or 2.6% above benchmark [1].
FY2026 year-to-date collections totaled approximately $26.305 billion, which is $817 million or 3.2% more than actual collections in the same period of FY2025, and $589 million or 2.3% above the year-to-date benchmark.
“February 2026 revenue included increases relative to February 2025 collections in withholding and non-withholding income tax,” said Commissioner Snyder. “These increases were partially offset by decreases in sales tax and corporate and business tax. The increase in withholding is due primarily to typical timing factors in tax collections. The increase in non-withholding income tax is driven mostly by a favorable decrease in refunds. The decrease in sales tax is due, in part, to typical timing factors in tax collections.” The decrease in corporate and business tax is due to decreases in estimated and return payments and an unfavorable increase in refunds.
February has historically been the lowest month for revenue, contributing less than 6% of annual collections. Neither individual nor business taxpayers are required to make estimated payments during the month. February is also the month in which income tax refunds reach substantial levels.
