DTRD HOLDS MANAGEMENT RETREAT IN SUNYANI TO STRENGTHEN VAT COMPLIANCE AND REVENUE MOBILIZATION
The Domestic Tax Revenue Division (DTRD) of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) successfully held its 2026 Management Retreat from 18th – 21st February 2026 at Eusbett Hotel in Sunyani. The retreat brought together management staff to review performance, strengthen operational strategies, and align divisional priorities with the Authority’s revenue mobilization objectives.
Held on the theme “Transforming for Impact and Growth: Focusing on VAT Performance and Compliance,” the retreat formed part of ongoing efforts to reposition the Division to enhance Value Added Tax (VAT) compliance, improve service delivery, and contribute significantly to national revenue mobilization.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area. Also present were the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, and the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Vincent Antwi Agyei. Their presence underscored the importance of the Authority’s mandate and demonstrated strong collaboration between the GRA and key regional stakeholders in advancing domestic revenue mobilization.
Addressing participants, the Commissioner-General of the GRA, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, reaffirmed Management’s commitment to mobilizing adequate domestic revenue to support Ghana’s development agenda. He emphasized that the Authority remained focused on achieving the minimum revenue target of GH¢360 billion by 2028 and noted that achieving this goal would require strengthened compliance efforts, innovation, and sustained commitment across all operational areas, particularly within the DTRD.
He disclosed that although Government had set a revenue target of not less than GH¢225 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, the Authority had set an internal target of GH¢230 billion, with the DTRD tasked to mobilize GH¢163 billion, highlighting the Division’s critical role in driving revenue performance.
The Commissioner-General further stressed the importance of intensified taxpayer education in promoting voluntary compliance and encouraged the public to honour their tax obligations and insist on receiving VAT invoices for all transactions. He noted that tax compliance remained a civic responsibility essential to national development, especially in the context of declining global financial support to developing countries.
The retreat provided a strategic platform for Management to assess performance, identify operational gaps, and develop actionable strategies to improve VAT compliance, strengthen enforcement, and enhance service delivery. It also enabled participants to align divisional operations with the Authority’s broader strategic direction.
Speaking to GRA News, some participants expressed renewed commitment to supporting the Authority’s mandate and left the retreat with clearer focus and strengthened resolve to contribute meaningfully towards achieving national revenue targets.
