What changed
CT DRS announced the opening of the 2026 income tax filing season for the 2025 tax year. The filing deadline is April 15, 2026 for both state and federal returns. Taxpayers who file by paper should be aware that USPS now postmarks mail based on first processing date rather than drop-off date, and should request a manual postmark at a retail location to ensure timely filing under Connecticut C.G.S. 12-39aa.
Connecticut individual taxpayers should file electronically via myconneCT or third-party software to avoid processing delays. Taxpayers using myconneCT must file federal returns separately with the IRS. Paper filers mailing close to the April 15 deadline should obtain a manual postmark to ensure their return is considered timely filed under state law.

Connecticut Department of Revenue Services Announces Start of 2026 Tax Season
(HARTFORD, CT) – The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS) today announced that it is currently accepting individual state income tax returns for the 2025 tax year. The state and federal income tax filing deadline is Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
"It’s that time of year again, and our team is ready to help Connecticut taxpayers file on time,” said DRS Commissioner Mark Boughton. "As always, we encourage taxpayers to take advantage of our free myconneCT service to file their state returns electronically, or they can use third-party software. As a friendly reminder, filing electronically is the best way to get your refund quickly and avoid delays in processing your return and payment.”
Taxpayers using myconneCT to file can access the DRS eAssistant, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, if they have questions. The DRS eAssistant is located on the myconneCT homepage in the bottom right-hand corner.
Recent information from the United States Postal Service (USPS) may impact taxpayers who mail their returns and payments. USPS is now postmarking letters and packages with the date they are first processed, not when they are dropped off at the post office or in a mailbox. USPS is advising people to request a manual postmark at a retail location to ensure their mail receives a postmark with a date that matches when the postal service first accepted possession of the mail. As a reminder, per Connecticut C.G.S 12-39aa, a postmark is deemed by state law to be the date the return and/or payment is delivered to DRS. Taxpayers using USPS for their returns and payments should plan accordingly.
DRS offers the following helpful tips for this filing season:
- Taxpayers should file early and electronically for the fastest possible processing of returns and payments.
- If taxpayers use myconneCT, they will need to file their federal returns separately with the IRS.
- Visit the DRS website for more information regarding filing and payment options.
