Street Works Charges Order 2026 Approves Seven Highway Authorities for Lane Rental Schemes

The Secretary of State for Transport has made The Street Works (Charges for Occupation of the Highway) Order 2026 (S.I. 2026/424), approving seven highway authorities to operate Lane Rental Schemes under the 2012 Regulations. The approved authorities are Buckinghamshire Council, North Yorkshire Council, Oxfordshire County Council, and four London Boroughs (Camden, Enfield, Lambeth, and Merton). These authorities may now require daily charges for street works carried out at Traffic-Sensitive Locations during Traffic-Sensitive Times.
