Georgia Supreme Court Upholds 13 Murder Convictions, Vacates Firearm Convictions

The Supreme Court of Georgia on April 21, 2026 upheld murder convictions and life prison sentences for 13 defendants including John Bailey, Bobby Crawford, Deon Ellison, David Kelly, Matthew Larkins, Deqaveon Malcolm, Travis McFarland, Tonya Monroe, Gregory Painter, Sheldon Ragland, and Calvin Sneed. In Sneed v. The State (S26A0409), the Court vacated convictions and sentences for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, remanding the case to the trial court to correct sentencing merger errors. The Court also accepted a voluntary surrender of law license from attorney Leonard Richard Medley, III and dismissed a disciplinary matter involving Darryl J. Ferguson.
