Connecticut Electricity Rates Drop 14%, May 1st

Connecticut PURA approved an interim decision on April 22, 2026 reducing residential electricity rates by approximately 14% starting May 1, 2026, with Eversource customers saving roughly $30 per month (4.3 cents/kWh) and United Illuminating customers saving approximately $34 per month (4.9 cents/kWh). The rate reduction stems from nuclear contracts with Millstone and Seabrook plants, state legislation (Public Act 25-173), and bond funding that converted the public benefits charge from a cost to a credit through at least September 2026.

Eversource UI Electric Rates Decrease May 1 2026

PURA conditionally approves decreased electric rates for Eversource Energy and United Illuminating (UI) effective May 1, 2026 through April 30, 2027 in PURA Dockets 26-01-03 and 26-01-04. Eversource residential customers will see a decrease of 4.3 cents per kilowatt-hour, averaging about $30 less per month; UI residential customers will see a decrease of 4.9 cents per kilowatt-hour, averaging about $34 less per month. The reductions are driven by lower public benefits charges tied to Millstone and Seabrook nuclear energy contracts and decreased hardship protection costs including uncollectible debt and arrearage forgiveness programs. A prudence review of actual revenues and expenses may result in further adjustments effective September 1.

Connecticut Launches Statewide Battery Storage Program with $7,500 Max Residential Incentive

PURA announced the launch of Energy Storage Solutions, a nine-year statewide battery storage program administered by the Connecticut Green Bank, Eversource, and United Illuminating. The program, effective January 1, 2022 and running through December 2030, provides residential customers upfront incentives of approximately $200 per kWh with a $7,500 maximum per project, while commercial and industrial customers can receive up to 50% of project costs. Additional incentives are available for low-income customers, underserved communities, and those experiencing frequent storm outages.

Revised Electric Standard Service Generation Rates to Take Effect July 1

CT PURA advises Eversource and United Illuminating customers of revised standard service generation rates effective July 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022. Eversource rate increases to 12.050 cents/kWh; UI rate increases to 10.620 cents/kWh. Rates reflect historically high natural gas prices driven by supply chain constraints and geopolitical tensions.

AG Tong Criticizes PURA Approval of Aquarion Water Authority Sale

Attorney General Criticizes Rate Increase for Yankee Gas

Connecticut Attorney General William Tong criticized the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) for approving an additional $4 million rate increase for Eversource-owned Yankee Gas. This decision follows previous rate hikes and penalty eliminations for other utility companies, drawing strong condemnation from the AG regarding the impact on consumers.
