Guterres Attends World Bank, IMF Spring Meetings in Washington

UN Secretary-General António Guterres traveled to Washington, D.C. on 15 April 2026 to participate in the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the IMF. He joined World Bank President Ajay Banga at the closing of the Water Forward Initiative, delivering remarks on access to water as a basic human right. He subsequently helped launch the Borrowers Platform, a new forum for borrowing countries to share experience, build technical capacity, and speak collectively on debt architecture reform. The Secretary-General also met separately with Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Pakistan Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

15 UAE Nationals Join World Bank Talent Development Program

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, 15 UAE Nationals will join the National Talent Development with World Bank Group Explorers Program announced on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and IMF in Washington, D.C. The collaboration is a partnership between the UAE Ministry of Finance and the World Bank Group, supported by the UAE Aid Agency, the Office of Development and Fallen Heroes' Families Affairs, and ADGM Academy. As part of the programme, 15 Emirati youth will be selected to participate in hands-on assignments linked to real development projects across economics, finance, infrastructure and international development.
