Meta AI Training Opt-Out Deadline May 26 for European Facebook Instagram Users

The Datenschutzstelle Liechtenstein has issued an official notice advising all adult European Facebook and Instagram users to file an objection against Meta using their publicly accessible personal data for generative AI model training. Meta plans to begin using publicly accessible data from 27 May 2025, including past data for users who do not object; users who file by 26 May 2025 will have the objection apply to future data only. Objections can be filed via in-app settings or the dedicated Facebook and Instagram forms linked in the notice, with the caveat that the objection only covers the individual's own account and does not prevent data reuse when shared by other users without an objection on file.

DSS Advisory: TikTok Data Transfers to China Violate GDPR

The Liechtenstein Datenschutzstelle (DSS) has issued an advisory confirming that TikTok continues transferring personal data of European users to China and other third countries, in defiance of a joint decision by European data protection authorities that found these transfers violate the GDPR. TikTok challenged the decision in Irish courts, which suspended the enforcement order pending a ruling, but required TikTok to notify users about the ongoing data transfers. The DSS and other European DPAs are calling on both individual users and organizations to critically assess whether continued use of TikTok is responsible, particularly given the limited legal protections available to individuals in China.
