What changed

The Iowa Real Estate Commission provides informational resources on interior design registration requirements under Iowa's Title Act. The Board requires any person practicing or using the title 'registered interior designer' to hold proper registration. Registration may be obtained through examination or reciprocity with other jurisdictions.

Interior designers must comply with seal specifications (1 3/4 inch outer circle with name, registration number, and 'Iowa'), maintain continuing education including HSW (Health, Safety, and Welfare) courses, and renew by the June 30 deadline. A list of criminal offenses directly relating to the profession is published, and disciplinary action may be taken against unregistered practitioners using the protected title.

What to do next

  1. Apply for registration through My Iowa PLB
  2. Renew registration by June 30 deadline
  3. Complete required continuing education and retain documentation for audits
