Summary

The UK Lord Chancellor has issued the Supreme Court Fees (Amendment) Order 2026, increasing court fees by 5.9% effective April 1, 2026. This amendment to the 2024 Order adjusts specific fees to account for inflation between March 2023 and March 2025.

What changed

The Supreme Court Fees (Amendment) Order 2026, made on March 5, 2026, and effective April 1, 2026, amends the Supreme Court Fees Order 2024. The amendment introduces a 5.9% increase to various fees payable in the Supreme Court, calculated based on inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index from March 2023 to March 2025. Specific fee increases range from £40 for filing an objection to an application for permission to appeal to £760 for filing a notice of appeal.

This rule change will directly impact the cost of initiating and proceeding with appeals and applications within the UK Supreme Court. Legal professionals and parties involved in litigation before the Supreme Court will need to be aware of the updated fee schedule. The changes are effective from April 1, 2026, and no specific compliance deadline is noted beyond the effective date of the Order.

What to do next

  1. Update internal fee schedules to reflect the 5.9% increase for all relevant Supreme Court filings.
  2. Ensure all new applications and notices filed on or after April 1, 2026, include the revised fee amounts.
  3. Inform relevant legal teams and clients about the fee increase.
