Summary

The NLRB Region 7 is investigating unfair labor practice charges against Henry Ford Health Genesys Hospital for alleged failure to bargain in good faith. The investigation is ongoing, and no conclusions have been reached.

What changed

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Region 7 has initiated an investigation into alleged unfair labor practices by Henry Ford Health Genesys Hospital. Local 332 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters filed charges claiming the hospital failed to bargain in good faith and infringed upon employees' rights under the National Labor Relations Act. The hospital has denied the allegations.

If the investigation finds merit and a settlement is not reached, the NLRB may issue a complaint and proceed to a hearing. Regulated entities, particularly healthcare providers involved in labor disputes, should be aware that the NLRB is actively investigating such claims and will proceed with enforcement actions if violations are found. No specific compliance deadline or penalty information is available at this stage, as the investigation is ongoing.

What to do next

  1. Review current collective bargaining agreements and negotiation practices for compliance with the National Labor Relations Act.
  2. Ensure all employee rights under the NLRA are being upheld during labor disputes.
  3. Consult legal counsel regarding any ongoing or potential labor disputes to ensure good-faith bargaining.

March 04, 2026 Detroit, MI — [March 4, 2025] — The Regional Director of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Region 7 today issued a statement regarding the ongoing labor dispute between Henry Ford Health Genesys Hospital and Local 332, International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

Region 7 is investigating multiple unfair labor practice charges filed by Local 332 alleging that Henry Ford Health Genesys Hospital has failed to bargain in good faith and has taken actions that may infringe on employees’ rights under the National Labor Relations Act.  Henry Ford Health Genesys Hospital has denied the allegations and filed its own responses and submissions.

“Our responsibility is to conduct a neutral, fact-based investigation,” said Region 7 Regional Director Elizabeth Kerwin. “We are gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and evaluating the facts to determine whether the Act has been violated. We do not advocate for either party.  Instead, we evaluate whether the conduct described in the charges is supported by evidence and whether it violates the National Labor Relations Act.  No conclusions have been reached at this time.”

If the investigation finds merit to any of the allegations and a settlement cannot be reached, Region 7 may issue a complaint and proceed to a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge.

“I want to acknowledge the professionalism and dedication of the Region 7 staff who are working diligently on this matter,” Kerwin added.  “Their commitment to careful, impartial fact-finding is essential to carrying out the Agency’s mission under the National Labor Relations Act.”

Region 7 remains committed to a fair and timely resolution consistent with the National Labor Relations Act.

Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year.
