What changed

The Louisiana Department of Insurance published a consumer alert identifying two unlicensed entities—Innovative Partners and LifeX Research—as marketing unauthorized health insurance products in Louisiana. The alert clarifies that coverage from these entities is not recognized by hospitals, clinics, or physicians, exposing consumers to full liability for medical expenses. The LDI provides a list of currently licensed health insurers operating in the state and directs consumers to its Active Company Search tool for verification.

Healthcare providers and medical billing staff encountering unexpected coverage denials from Innovative Partners or LifeX Research policies should be aware these are not legitimate insurers. LDI Warns Consumers Against Unlicensed Healthcare Entities

Innovative Partners and LifeX Research are not authorized to sell insurance in Louisiana

The Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) is urging Louisiana consumers to exercise extreme caution following reports of two unlicensed entities marketing themselves as healthcare insurers within the state.

Innovative Partners and LifeX Research are not licensed by the LDI to sell or solicit health insurance. Their coverage is not recognized by hospitals, clinics or doctors, leaving consumers responsible for their medical bills. The LDI has received multiple complaints from consumers who purchased what they believed were comprehensive health policies, only to have their insurance cards rejected by medical providers.

LDI reminds residents that legitimate, licensed individual healthcare plans currently authorized to operate in Louisiana include:

  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and Louisiana Blue
  • Louisiana Healthcare Connections
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • CHRISTUS Health Plan
  • AmeriHealth Caritas Next Before purchasing any plan or sharing personal financial information, consumers are encouraged to verify the licensing status of the insurer using the LDI Active Company Search tool, available online at ldi.la.gov and on the LDIConnect mobile app.

If you have been approached by Innovative Partners or LifeX Research—or if you have concerns about any insurance offer you have received—please contact the LDI Office of Consumer Services immediately at 800-259-5300, ext. 3.
