ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that the Georgia Department of Insurance and Safety Fire is actively assisting with wildfire response efforts in multiple counties across South Georgia.

Significant wildfire activity has occurred across thousands of acres in South Georgia, prompting a coordinated statewide response. Commissioner King is currently on site with teams supporting local officials as conditions continue to evolve. Approximately 30 law enforcement members of OCI are deployed to the affected areas. Several team members are specially trained in wildfire operations, enabling the Department to assist in monitoring fire movement and providing real-time situational assessments to emergency personnel.

“Our staff is working side-by-side with local responders to support firefighting operations and ensure the safety of these communities,” said Commissioner King. “We have teams knocking on doors, assisting with evacuations, and helping families leave their homes safely as the wildfire conditions shift. The dedication of our personnel during a crisis like this is something every Georgian can be proud of.”

The Department is coordinating closely with local fire departments, emergency management agencies, and county leadership to provide direct assistance wherever needed. This includes helping guide evacuation routes, monitoring changing wildfire boundaries, and supporting neighborhood-by-neighborhood outreach to ensure residents receive timely information.

“These are challenging conditions, but our mission is clear,” Commissioner King added. “We are here to protect lives and property, and we will continue to stand with local officials and first responders for as long as this situation demands. Our priority is the safety of Georgians in these affected counties.”

The Department will continue to release updates as additional information becomes available and as conditions in each county develop.
