Summary

The USPTO has granted a patent (US12582490B2) to Mendaera, Inc. for a real-time image guided portable robotic intervention system. The patent covers an image-guided robotic intervention system (IGRIS) designed to provide real-time views of patient anatomy and assist in planning and executing medical procedures.

What changed

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued patent US12582490B2 for a "Real-time image guided portable robotic intervention system." The patent, assigned to Mendaera, Inc., details an Image-Guided Robotic Intervention System (IGRIS) that integrates real-time imaging, 3D volume reconstruction from 2D images, and robotic guidance for medical procedures. It also includes features for estimating the pose of imaging devices relative to the patient to enhance accuracy and robustness.

This patent grant signifies the protection of intellectual property related to advanced medical technology. While not a regulatory rule imposing new compliance obligations on healthcare providers or manufacturers, it highlights innovation in the medical device sector. Companies developing or utilizing similar robotic intervention systems should be aware of this patent's scope and consider potential licensing or infringement implications.

Abstract

An image-guided robotic intervention system (“IGRIS”) may be used to perform medical procedures on patients. IGRIS provides a real-time view of patient anatomy, as well as an intended target or targets for the procedures, software that allows a user to plan an approach or trajectory path using either the image or the robotic device, software that allows a user to convert a series of 2D images into a 3D volume, and localizes the 3D volume with respect to real-time images during the procedure. IGRIS may include sensors to estimate pose of the imaging device relative to the patient to improve the performance of that software with respect to runtime, robustness, and accuracy.
