USPTO Patent US12581269B1: Motion Event Evaluation Using Machine Learning
Summary
The USPTO has granted patent US12581269B1 to NoCell Technologies, LLC for a method of evaluating motion event types using machine learning on network devices. The patent describes systems and methods for detecting and classifying motion events, potentially leading to policy implementation on devices.
What changed
USPTO patent US12581269B1, granted on March 17, 2026, to NoCell Technologies, LLC, details a computerized method for identifying motion event types on network devices using machine learning. The patented method involves establishing a position baseline via gyroscope data (X, Y, Z axes), detecting motion events through gyroscope or accelerometer data, and evaluating these events with a machine learning model to classify the motion type. The patent also includes the potential for implementing policies to restrict device functionality based on identified motion events.
This patent grant is primarily informational and does not impose new regulatory obligations on entities. However, it signifies technological advancements in motion event analysis for network devices, which could influence future product development and security protocols. Companies developing or utilizing network devices with motion sensing capabilities, particularly in health informatics or security applications, may wish to be aware of this patented technology.

Abstract
A computerized method for identifying a type of a motion event of a network device is disclosed that includes operations of establishing a position baseline of the network device, wherein establishing the position baseline of the network device includes recording a value for each of an X-, Y- and Z-axis detected by a gyroscope of the network device and detecting the motion event of the network device, which includes detecting a position change by the gyroscope or an acceleration by an accelerometer of the network device. Additionally, the method includes operations of evaluating the detected position change or acceleration of the network device by a machine learning model and identifying a type of motion event based on results of the evaluating by the machine learning model. The method may further include the operation of implementing a set of policies on the network device to restrict functionality thereof.
