Patent: AI optimizes vehicle settings based on occupant state
Summary
The USPTO has granted a patent to Toyota Motor North America, Inc. for an AI system that optimizes vehicle settings based on occupant state and time of day. This patent covers the use of AI to adjust vehicle systems to enhance occupant comfort and condition.
What changed
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued patent US12583405B2 to Toyota Motor North America, Inc. The patent details an artificial intelligence (AI) system designed to optimize vehicle settings by analyzing an individual's state, derived from stored profile data, and the current time of day. The AI model determines appropriate adjustments to various vehicle systems, which are then implemented while the individual is present in the vehicle.
This patent grant signifies a new technological development in automotive AI and occupant experience. While it does not impose direct regulatory obligations on other entities, it establishes intellectual property rights for Toyota concerning this specific AI application. Companies operating in the automotive and AI sectors, particularly those developing in-cabin experience technologies, should be aware of this patent's scope to avoid potential infringement issues.

Abstract
An example operation includes one or more of identifying a state of an individual associated with a vehicle based on data of the individual stored in a profile, determining a current time of day from a system of the vehicle, determining a setting to change on one or more systems within the vehicle based on execution of an artificial intelligence (AI) model on the state of the individual and the current time of day, and changing the setting on the one or more systems within the vehicle while the individual is within the vehicle.
