Medical device chuck with rotating fiducial marker array patent
Summary
The USPTO published patent application US20260090859A1 for a medical device chuck with a rotating fiducial marker array. Inventors Jesse Harrison Gallant, Osamah Choudhry, Christopher Morley, and Florentin Jonas Liebmann filed the application on September 27, 2024. The invention enables precise positioning and tracking of medical devices during surgical procedures by maintaining fixed distances between fiducial markers and the device tip.
What changed
The USPTO published a patent application for a medical device chuck designed to clamp onto cylindrical portions of separate medical devices during procedures, preventing lateral sliding or pivoting. The rotating fiducial marker array, containing multiple fiducial markers, is coupled to the chuck and rotates around it while maintaining fixed distances from the device's longitudinal axis and tip.
This patent application represents technological innovation in surgical navigation systems. Medical device manufacturers should review the claims to assess potential overlap with existing products or development pipelines. Healthcare institutions may consider how this technology could enhance image-guided procedure accuracy. No immediate compliance obligations or deadlines arise from this publication.

Abstract
A medical fiducial marker system includes a medical device chuck and a rotating fiducial marker array. The medical device chuck can clamp onto a cylindrical portion of a separate medical device during a medical procedure, resulting in the medical device chuck being unable to slide laterally along the cylindrical portion or pivot about the cylindrical portion with respect to a longitudinal axis of the cylindrical portion. The rotating fiducial marker array has a plurality of fiducial markers and is coupled to the medical device chuck such that the fiducial marker array rotates around the medical device chuck. Clamping the medical device chuck onto the cylindrical portion of the separate medical device results in each of the plurality of fiducial markers remaining at fixed distances from both the cylindrical longitudinal axis and a tip of the separate medical device when the fiducial marker array rotates around the medical device chuck.
