Method and device for providing alopecia information
Summary
USPTO granted Patent US12594023B2 to BECON CO., LTD. for a method and device that detects alopecia using image feature extraction from head images. The technology extracts feature points and calculates a ratio of top-face to middle-bottom-face measurements to determine hair loss state. This is a routine patent grant for health informatics technology covering a 20-year patent term from the 2022 filing date.
What changed
USPTO granted Patent US12594023B2 to BECON CO., LTD. (inventor: Min Suk Park) for a method of providing hair loss state information. The patent covers: obtaining head images of users, extracting multiple feature points grouped into first and second groups, extracting boundary points corresponding to hair and forehead boundaries, selecting matching boundary points, and calculating a ratio between top-face portion values and middle-bottom-face portion values to determine alopecia severity. The patent contains 10 claims and falls under CPC classifications A61B 5/448 and G16H 30/40.
This patent grant gives BECON exclusive rights to this alopecia detection method for the patent term. Competitors developing hair loss analysis technology in health informatics or medical devices should review this patent to assess potential infringement risks and determine whether they need to design around it or seek licensing. The patent does not impose compliance obligations on regulated entities but establishes enforceable intellectual property rights.

Abstract
According to an aspect of the present disclosure, there is provided a method of providing hair loss state information, the method comprising: obtaining a head image of a user; extracting a plurality of feature points from the head image, wherein the plurality of feature points include a first group of feature points and a second group of feature points; extracting a plurality of boundary points corresponding to boundaries of a hair and a forehead of the user from the head image; selecting a matching boundary point corresponding to the first group of feature points from among the plurality of boundary points; obtaining a top-face portion calculation value determined based on a distance between the first group of feature points and a matching boundary point corresponding to the first group of feature points with respect to a first axis on the head image; obtaining a middle-bottom-face portion calculation value determined based on a distance between the first group of feature points and the second group of feature points with respect to the first axis; and providing hair loss state information of the user based on a ratio of the top-face portion calculation value and the middle-bottom-face portion calculation value.
